Finally did the rear axle service. New seals inner and outer, greased bearings with valvoline gray moly fortified multipurpose grease. Replaced most of parking brake parts with new except brake shoes (got wrong size from amazon). Main reason to go in was replace seals and restore lubes to where they belonged. Used mix of 4 year old off brand 80w90 (2 quarts) and new STP 80w90 (1 quart) diff fluid. Replaced fill and drain plugs with flush hex key Camry plugs. Rear brake pads replaced with Wagner pads from Rockauto. Reused original Timken bearings, looked fine to my untrained eyes. Had been running in pure diff fluid it seems, to no real negative effect. Replace next time for good measure. Tightened rear lock nuts as much as I could without special service tool. Felt fine, and tight. Check hub temps after driving.

Before this the brakes started grinding like a bag of rocks. Turns out Sean at LCS didn’t put the wear indicators on when he did my rear brakes a few years ago. Mfer. One side got down to metal on metal, gouged the hell out of the DS rotor. Parking brake was a mess, both wheel seals are gone I think, leaking into the parking brake assembly. After replacing the rotors and calipers and pads, I flushed the entire system with Lucas DOT 3. Order: LSPV, RR, RL, FR, FL. Took about half a quart to see clear on all bleeders. Used Motive Power Brake Bleeder. What a handy tool. Rockauto Centric vented rotors Centric rear brake hoses (all 3, didn’t install upper one yet) Centric pads (semi metallic cheapies, will probably replace soon when I do the axle) Napa Napa Adaptive One reman calipers. These could have been better, the banjo bolt on PS was too long and one of the guide pins had bad threads. Not the eclipse reman everyone recommended (seems NLA)

Wandering front end after axle job, happened upon this shop driving to a medical appointment, 118th and Inglewood. They had good yelp reviews. Told me my left front wheel bearing was loose, I tightened it when I got home to 30ft lb inner and 45 ft lb lock nut

Paid $1500 by credit, $642.00 by check. He told me 2142 so I missed the 66 cents They billed me for antifreeze but when I asked he said they put back whatever was in there which was brand new Toyota Red. He advised me to replace the heater control valve and the associated hoses, sounded like a good idea so I went with it ($450)... Passed inspection and new cats mean no more rattle. Remaining issue: rear brakes need to be done, rotors are rubbing still. Rear axle beginning to leak at passenger side. Shocks blown and leaking. Front oil pump cover leaking. Rear main seal leaking. Power steering leaking. Oil pan may be leaking.

Flushed with distilled water, 2 gallons at a time for 5 iterations. Water still looked rusty but less and less so. I refilled with 1.5 gallons Toyota red plus .5 gallons distilled water for a 40/60 antifreeze/water mix.
