Jeep is running well. I'm getting it all ready to sell. Changed the oil and filter last week at 27,750 miles. 15w-40 Rotella + Rislone ZDDP additive 11oz. Sure am going to miss this jeep!

The #112 jet seems to work great. No hesitation, or running hot. Runs good. Changed the engine oil today. Rislone, Motorkote, Rotella10w30.

Aug 20 2020

Drove 8/19 with elec pump out of the loop. No vapor lock. Omix #2 showed 1.5psi when hot and no fuel visible in the bowl. 8/20 put the new Omix #3 on and drove. 2.75psi hot is the best of the pumps. Still no fuel visible in the bowl when hot so I guess that is normal. Thankfully, fuel starvation issue seems to be solved...don't use the elec. pump in the loop.

Aug 18 2020

Okay, took the elec. pump out of the loop today. Will drive the circuit tomorrow and see how it goes. If all goes well, I can be certain that the elec. pump is the issue.

The last few days have given me fits with the psi/fuel line issue. I had re-mounted the elec. pump last weekend with the pump outlet above the inlet at a 45 degree angle as per Autobest in order to avoid vapor lock. Thought I had it figured out. No such luck. It now cuts out every 5 min. or so and I have to turn on the elec. pump to keep from dying. Must have happened 10 times today driving the circuit. It worked better at slower speed like on CR56, but when the engine is under load like at speed, it will lose prime and cut out without the elec pump. I need to drive it now with the elec pump disconnected to see if better.

Aug 13 2020

Okay, went to start jeep this morning with the new Carter (#3) and...nothing. Re plumbed with the elec. pump in so I could prime the new Carter. Primed well. Started up and it died as soon as the fuel to the carb was used up. So, new Carter is no good and going back to RA. I put on an Omix, left the elec. in the loop and took a drive to Budweiser. On the way back on Douglas it went to sputter and die so I turned on the elec. pump to get home. At home, just took the elec. pump out of the loop as it looks to be the problem. Have not driven yet, but so far I have not had the issue with the elec. pump out of the loop.

Aug 10 2020

Th. 8/6 we drove up Rist Canyon, Old Flowers road, and the first bit of Kelly Flats. I had issues every bit of the way with fuel lines. So, Friday am, bypassed the elec. pump. Took a drive and it ran good but, the fuel pressure was still low - only about 1psi. So, swapped out the AC pump as I suspect it is a very weak pump. Put the old Carter in and drove it today. The Carter also runs low psi - only about 1.5 - 2 psi. I may swap out with the new (never used) Carter to see if a new pump delivers higher pressure. If not, maybe the low pressure is just how my system reads or maybe my gauge reads low. Stay tuned...

Jul 22 2020

Drove up Old Fall River road yesterday (7/21). Same fuel issue as before - air being sucked into line. Today found that the line between elec. pump and the steel line had a loose spring clamp and the rubber had worn inside on the barb. Replaced all the rubber lines and clamps so should now be all set!

Apr 19 2020

Just got the jeep back from or4x4. They replaced the rear main seal. Had to pull the engine - said it was not possible to do it with the engine in. What a pita! No charges - will invoice Darin. I spent today checking all the fasteners and getting things right. Plan to drive it tomorrow. The jeep has new oil, filter, and antifreeze in it now. Rotella 10w30 with Rislone zinc treatment. Plan to leave this oil and filter in for 2k miles. Swapped the t-stat out with the Allied engine. This one now has a 160 and the Allied has a 170.

Sep 29 2019

Last week I adjusted the valves, removed PCV baffle so the valve cover doesn't leak, Changed to a 4 or 7 lb. radiator cap to stop the head weeping, changed the thermostat to 180 degrees. Also, I think I found the right timing after doing the valves. Drove up feedlot hill and had some ping, so backed off timing and tried again, seems right now - no ping. May have a bad T-stat as it swings up and down (used 4# cap). New one on order. May be air in system. Put on 7# cap, may see improvement.

Aug 15 2019

Drove today with the fuel cap that has the "arm" and the working vent valve. Got a big whoosh of air when I got home and unscrewed the cap. So, put on the old cap that has an "open" vent hole and no valve. No whoosh when I got home. But, coming up from Gregory, jeep tried to die and the only thing that saved me was turning on the elec. pump. Just changed out the pump with the new Airtex. 3psi, haven't driven yet.

Jun 14 2019

Took the "old" engine in to AMS machine shop yesterday to have it gone through and cleaned up. There was some carbon on all the pistons and the head evenly, and some rust in the water passages, but the cylinders looked like mirrors - not a mark on them. The compression has been 115 on all four, but I do use some oil - ~1qt. in 4-500 miles. Maybe rings, that will be corrected. Could be a 6-8 week wait.

Apr 6 2019

Yesterday, when I got in from a drive the throttle shaft was leaking fuel. Tightened up the shaft nuts. Today, no leaking but the idle was about 1100rpm. Adjusted it down 3/4 turn to normal. Runs great now. I wonder if the loose shaft nuts might have been the cause of my cold start issue with the throttle action killing the engine??? We'll see! BTW, no cold start issue today! Will keep an eye on this.

Feb 22 2019

Added Motorkote (friction reducer) to engine, Trans and TC, and R. Diff., and F. diff.

Feb 17 2019

Added Motorkote: 10 oz. to engine. Added 1 qt. Rotella in 800 mi. so the Bars valve seal seems to help. Installed the "turbo" so will see if any improvement in mpg's or power.

Nov 22 2018

Carb #3 (the new Crown) will still not do a cold start. So, removed it and put #2 back on and it runs well. The #3 will be going back to JC Whitney. Ordered a new Omix from CSE, which should be in next week. I believe exactly the same as the crown but with a 5 year warranty. With any luck the cold start will work. BTW, took the Crown cold starter apart and all looked well EXCEPT the hole in the cast body possibly didn't go through correctly to let gas in. Hard to tell for sure, but this would explain the "no choke".

Nov 16 2018

The new carb. was very hard cold starting today - had to put gas into carb. After it warmed up, it ran good and hot start was normal and warm start was normal. Might have to dive into the choke...
