1/06/10 172.6 3.600 $2.52 47.9 Computer logged 50.4 vs. actual. Fuel procured at SAMS with home top-off. Unusually cold weather for this time of year with temperature in single digits and w/c well below 0. Prius does NOT shine in cold weather,...as I suspected. Motor seems to run ALL of the time trying to keep engine at operating temp and supply necessary climate control needs. Very poor in snow and ice.
12/17/09 280.0 5.475 $2.34 51.1 Very cold weather is on the way! I suspect the Prius will not fare well in very cold weather. Climate control appears to be its greatest negative. I did not use the A/C very much earlier in the year, which resulted in very good MPGs,....but the winter may prove a different matter. Engine appears to remain on a rich setting much longer, and definitely runs much more than in warmer weather. Definitely a weak cink in its armor.
12/08/09 174.5 3.000 $2.41 58.2 Weather wasn't as cold during this past week,...and I drove the "white-out" like an old lady. However, driving like an old lady can get you killed in the world today,...so I will probably opt for a little more aggressive mode in the future. Have a Good Day out there!
12/01/09 310.0 5.890 $2.37 52.6 Unusually cool weather has appeared to take its toll on the Prius's MPGs. Motor takes much longer to warm up, and appears to restart much more frequently. To its credit, I do mostly short trip driving with a 50/50 mix of urban/highway. Many more warm up cycles than a predominately highway driver.
11/19/09 361.0 6.660 $2.45 54.2 I continue to top off tank at home, after fill-up at service station. Helps to give me more accurate MPG readings. I have had problems in the past with gas pumps cutting off prematurely,..thereby skewing MPG readings between fill-ups. Hopefully, this will provide more accurate mileage figures for "ole White-Out". Still believe cold weather is going to take its toll on the MPG's.
