no period on android keypad

I tried the mobile page on my Android Samsung Galaxy S3. The first time everything worked great and I was able to add a fuel-up. The second time I tried, there is no period on the keypad, just numbers, so I can't enter number of gallons or price. I can enter numbers and go to prev and next fields. All other functions on the keypad are disabled. This means the mobile page is useless to me.

Sorry about that. This is a frustrating problem that we don't have control over. For some reason, the folks who control the version of the phone you have decided that a period isn't required for the numeric keypad. It doesn't make much sense. The numeric keypad is supposed to be different from the phone number keypad which doesn't require a period.

The frustrating thing is that this is limited to one or two versions of Android on Samsung. Most versions of Android have the period (and a comma) available on the numeric keypad.

You might look into sending fuel-ups via SMS. Or try using the fuel-up form on the full site. We don't specify that mobile devices should use a numeric keypad there.

I've just experienced this too on the same phone on Vodafone here in the UK - very curious. Wasn't an issue on my previous handset, an HTC Desire.

I have the S3 as well and havn't had this issue, I am using swype though, maybe another keyboard other than the built in one might help?

Just to let you know, with Dolphin, there is no keypad. It gives the full, normal, keyboard. The default android browser has the proper keypad.

Same problem here on the Galaxy S2. Not ideal but one solution I use is to type the amount as a message then copy & paste into Fuelly.

If you have a phone that's experiencing this problem you can bring up this page on your phone:

http://m.fuelly.com/disable-numeric-keypad.gas?id=1

This will set a cookie that tells Fuelly Mobile to use the standard keypad for entering numbers. So you'll have to shift around on the keypad to get to the numbers, but at least you'll have the option to use a decimal. This isn't an ideal solution, but there's just not much we can do from this side of things.

What's interesting about this is the actual decimal point is greyed out, and the little gear icon to configure the settings for the input is also greyed out... before it was not. I've been using the fuelly app for weeks and only last night did it not show the decimal point. Very strange.

Do you have a URL that would enable back the numeric keypad?

Sure, change the one in the other URL to a zero:

http://m.fuelly.com/disable-numeric-keypad.gas?id=0

PB, I just discovered another interesting point. Today I cleared all the cache, history, cookies, etc from the browser on my Galaxy S3. Later, I ended up at the gas station, without thinking about it, I went to enter the gallons and the period had reappeared on the "keypad" that was once greyed out... So, it's not like an update from Samsung/Android caused this to happen. Something is wrong with the cookie or temp that the site uses... any ideas? I'd be happy to help you test this... let me know if I can help in any way.

That's very odd. Were you using the unofficial Android app, or did you go directly to m.fuelly.com in your browser? I'm wondering if that app is causing more problems than just slowness reported in another thread.
