TDI EPA figures off?

Also keep in mind that for every hypermiler, theres about 20 of us who dont. I enjoy my 50mpg trips into town, but my average is still hovering below 40.

Jetta TDI 2009, Do the chips help

Also, the TDICup is using the exact same car minus a couple parts as the ones we own now. Except their engine is 170hp, ours is 140. Some people have gotten the 90 hp earlier models to put out close to 200, I would bet that 200 hp is a single chip away with the 09. And if you get crazy enough to spend another car on this car, id bet 250 isnt too hard.

Well, the warranty isnt 50k, so your wait will be 14k shorter.
Timing in TDI's is fuel timing, at least that is my understanding.
Say a stock car injects fuel for .1 seconds total starting at 5 degrees from TDC, (im making up numbers completely) a chip can start injecting fuel at 7 degrees from TDC for .15 seconds for instance, giving you more fuel and more power.
A chip can also tell the turbo to supply more boost (more boost=more power usually), or a number of different things that people like me shouldnt be messing with. Luckily, theres people like Jeff of RocketChip or Alligator (or however they wanna spell it), or I think theres another company or two.

But for 09's, your out of luck right now, the exhaust system is too new. I believe the reason there isnt a rocketchip out right now for 09's is the fact that people are idiots and will blame the chip WHEN their DPF needs to get replaced in 6 months. Yes, there is a reasonable demand to put these things on the track, but again, people are idiots :)

New cars don't get along with fuelly

When I got my car, I took it to a station and filled it to the brim. Then I drove 4000 miles and when I got home I had to wait for my card statements and added it all up, and had to divide it into like 4 segments to make fuelly happy.
But, disregard the first fill up ( should be like 1-2 gallons anyway) and take mileage from that point on.

Jetta TDI 2009, Do the chips help

For 09's, there isnt really much out there. I would hold back until modders figure out the exhaust system as a chip that pushes more fuel into the engine, also creates more soot that the DPF has to deal with and its not designed for that much.
Im eagerly awaiting my warranty to expire and the tuners to figure out how to mitigate the dpf problems.

fuel-up entry suggestion

On road trips where I usually fill up a few times (going through canada), I wait till my bank statements show the cost, I add em all up, add up all my miles, and add up all my gallons (3.8L-1gal). I have my own spreadsheet that I input all this into, it gives me price/gal for the trip, which is the figure I have to use for fuelly.

This suggestion would save me a step, and if propose going a step further in allowing a road trip type fuel up, where 5,000 miles is an acceptable value to put in for mileage, or 110 gallons, ect.

One more idea

I like it, true cost-to-own, minus paying for the car of course.
The people that do their own maintenance should cancel out the people that are getting screwed for repairs, and will be a nice average.

Jetta vs. Jetta TDI

I have a TDI, and signed up for the TDI because it was there. I say merge. If people cant help but choose the wrong section, get rid of the option, the engine type is still there for filtering.
