AT in neutral at a stoplight?

My Scangauge shows that shifting to neutral almost halves the fuel usage while sat idling. I did this on my '98 Grand Cherokee for almost 190k miles without a problem on what was considered to be a very weak transmission (42RE).

Average MPG stuck?

I was thinking about this just the other day. Would it be possible to show a last 3 month average as well as the overall? It would help to see just how the average is trending over the shorter time period.

Jetta vs. Jetta TDI

I vote for merging them. The filter option is there if people want to see just the TDIs.

Coasting down hill

I did some playing around with the scan gauge on the Xterra yesterday and noticed something strange. Coasting above 40 MPH in gear (auto) fuel consumption showed as 9999mpg, but below 40 it was significantly less, anywhere from 50-300 mpg. Maybe it is a speed related thing? Maybe just a Nissan thing?

Maybe I am missing something, but won't slipping in to neutral increase fuel consumption?

Modern EFI engines cut fuel flow when the vehicle is coasting and hence use little to no fuel. If the transmission is in neutral fuel will be required to keep the engine running at idle.
