2000 Chevy Impala Heater Core

A friend of mine said that the heater core is going out on his Impala. The passenger floorboard becomes damp when the heater is used.

The Impala has a 3800 V6 with 170,000 miles. I am wondering how difficult it is to replace one, and if any special tools are requred. Would it be possible to repair the existing one?
