'95 Civic DX hatchback oil leak

Hello all,

I bought my '95 DX h/b 3 months ago w/ 68,000 original miles. A week later I noticed some old oil and grime on the front left coner of the head below the distributor. After several unsuccessful attempts to locate the source of the very slow leak (doesn't leak enough to register a difference on the dipstick), I think I finally found it. It seems to be coming from below the distributor where the the distributor goes into the head. I figure it's a leaky distributor O-ring. I thought it was an odd oil leak source, especially since my previous '95 VX w/ 225,000 miles never leaked from there and I've never read about any one else from this or other Honda threads with an oil leak from this location. Have any other 92 - 95 Civic owners experienced an oil leak from this distributor O-ring?

I think it's something almost everyone has. I have one that is unnoticeable except from the previous owner never cleaning it up.

Just pop a new o-ring on there.

It'd say it's the most common oil leak on a d-series engine.

I second the motion...motioned carried and the floor is turned over to the new O-ring.

Thank you Mr. Speaker. As your newly elected O-ring, I promise that I will retain all engine oil in the head for a cleaner, safer engine block exterior. <the crowd goes wild>


So anyways, yes, it's a common leak. It doesn't get mentioned much on H-T because everyone is always swapping "Dizzys" when they swap motors anyways. Swap the O-ring and you're golden.

i agree, but its even worse on a b-series.
