For the alternator in that car, you can purchase brushes. I just purchased a set from CarQuest. The parts person told me that I was nuts, they didn't carry brushes, hadn't for years. To humor me, he looked anyway and he did have brushes for the Honda. You do need to be able to solder, to put them in.

I had an 89 hatch that the alternator went out in... it started killing at idle. Didn't take long and it was barely drivable cause I had to keep RPMs way up so it wouldn't kill. When do you plan on fixing it? I guess if you keep driving on it you'll figure out if it gets worse or if its just the regulator.

I think I'm going to wait to see if it gets any worse. Right now it is probably on less then 5% of the time.
