civic model years for VX swap

hi,
we are thinking of buying a d15z1 engine and swapping it into a civic hb.
I was wondering if anyone knew which civic model years/trims are compatible with the vx motor?
should I stick to 92-95?
cause I can't help thinking, the newer the chassis...the better condition it might be in.
Any info would be great!

92-95 would keep OBD1 (which the VX is) and would make the swap alot simpler then trying to put it in a 96+ Civic.

Agreed, keeping to the 92-95 Civic Chassis would keep the re-wiring to a minimum. It also depends on the state you live in as far as emissions go. Some states only allow a same year or newer engine to be dropped into the chassis.

Edit:
If you don't like the Hatchback rust, but are willing to have a shop/friend or you feel like fixing the rust yourself, PM me, I can show you where to get really cheap repair panels for the hatchback/coupe.

92-95 would be easiest due to wiring. I did this swap on an 89, but it takes a lot more work.

thanks for the info, I think I will definately stick to the 92-95 range. Easier is always better
we are going to try to find one without rust, but I'll keep your offer in mind in case we don't succeed.
And the emissions law is a good point, I'll have to look into it.

I asked several mechanics ( and the dealership ) about dropping a VX block in my automatic '93 DX hatch.
I was told it would -not- work because all the wiring would have to be changed out.

They said it would be cheaper to just buy a used VX.

What do you guys know about this ?

Liars! The wiring is not very difficult to do yourself...

I was also told I couldn't go auto to manual, and it was pretty darn easy to do so (except for forgetting parts, ).

Don't let the silly dealerships hold you back.
