Kill switch questions

Just googled auto shut down relay. Interesting, I've never heard of it. How does one begin looking for its location?

If you've got a relay block or box under the hood that's labelled, it might be in there. Otherwise check the Haynes/Chilton manual, EBSCO auto repair guide at local library or the repair guides at www.autozone.com

Actually, you probably wanna forget about the ASD unless you have a chrysler or jeep..... but just tripping out the crank sensor signal would probably work for a kill switch.... http://209.85.215.104/search?q=cache...ient=firefox-a

I suspect that killing at the crank sensor will definitely throw a code.

Yep. That's really the problem with most of the easy approaches to killing the engine. The ECU (ECM, whatever) is designed to keep the engine running, so it complains when you interfere with it.

Maybe interrupt the ignition on signal to the main relay? That would cut power to both the ECU and fuel pump. The distributor portion of the ignition system would still be getting power, but the ECU wouldn't be able to tell it to fire. A few solenoid valves get power directly from the ignition switch and ground through the ECU, but as far as I know, that shouldn't be a problem.
