I just bought a 1993 VX a couple weeks back and the exhaust system was a mess so I knew that was the first thing I needed to do. I took it directly to Bell Tire and had them put a whole new exhaust system on. It sounds much better and looks good however from time to time I hear a ping noise. I especially notice is when I park and turn the car off. It doesn't happen often but its very strange. Any idea what this could be? Should I be concerned?
Thermal expansion (and contraction as it cools). You can't hear it as it heats up due to the engine running. It's normal. It'll go away in a year or two as it starts to rust and the joints fuse to their mates.
This commonly happens when they don't use flanges that hold together with springs.
I would stay with the solid flanges because, like in my car's case, the gaskets don't seal right after a while unless the exhaust is hot. Makes the car stink if you are using fresh air on the ac when you start the car cold.
