New member - CA and 48 state computers

I have heard of a difference in power and mileage from the two computers, is it possible to swap out an ECU and O2 sensor or is the vehicle's wiring harness actually different for the two cars? I can imagine it would be a task trying to locate a CA computer for a car this old, I don't know if auto stores could even order it. I have seen that the 5 wire O2 sensor was upwards of $300 locally.

hi, welcome. The search feature is your friend. This is a very popular topic on these boards, so you've come to the right place! Try a search for CA and Federal or Fed o2 sensor ecu

Here, I did a search for you. This should get you started in the right direction.

I did a search for "ecu vx o2 sensor fed ca" without quotes.

Cheers
Jason

You can switch it out, but it is a wiring change and a wide band oxygen sensor change. Your best bet for a replacement would probably be a used one from a wrecking yard.

You could check car-part dot com. They have listings from all over the country.

Depends on the year of your VX. If it's a '92 California model, you can just switch the ECU, nothing else is needed. It's not that hard to find either computer, CA or the federal.
