I'm new here, Just wanted to respond to the poll question!
I will get a sig going when I get more time later. This looks like a great site!
My 94 civic vx was giving to me by a friend. Drove an hour away with my Dodge Cummins & 16 ft trailer. Had to be jumped started to run & put on the trailer. It needed a battery, alternator, & has a hesitation problem that I will fix so the I can get the mileage that this car is famous for. I will get on the diagnostic site for info too.

I just voted over $20K considering the Chevrolet Volt is coming out soon...
Correction, one day the Volt will be out...
Correction, I hope that one day I can pay more than $20K for the Volt to help Howie Long make more stupid commercials...

$11.500 for my SVT Focus. Only netted around 27-28 on my commute, but on the highway 35mpg was a lock.

I've had 30+ vehicles that I don't feel like remembering, and listing. I voted with me daily driver, which I went to a dealer for. They wanted $4,000. I drove it away for $2,100. The salesman couldn't even believe it. He looked like he'd just realised he'd been hoodwinked 
The most economical vehicle I own gets about 150mpg. I work traded for a Taandem cruiser bike for me, and my girl, then bought an 80cc engine off Ebay for about $120, and put it on. I have a bike computer that logs miles, and a 1 gallon tank, so it's easy to log the miles. If I lived somewhere warm, it would be my commuter.

I forgot to mention that that car^^^ gets about 35mpgHWY in good weather.
I should also include my race MX-3, that gets the same mileage as the stock one, but has 2X the Horsepower. It cost me $1500, and I've put about another $2,000 into it. It's soon going to have about 60 more HP, but will be about 150lbs lighter, and better tuned, so FI should be the same, until I get a taller final gear, and it will be at about 37mpg.

My most recent car ('95 Civic DX Sedan) I spent $800 on.
The ones before that:
2001 Saturn SC1 - $2,600
1993 Honda Civic DX Coupe - FREE (probably about $1,000 if you include the full motor rebuild I did).

I've had several free- $500 cars, but don't mention them because they were'nt FE. I did what I could, but there's only so much you can do with heavy, aerodynamically challenged, carburated V8s. I got my $1500 1975 Chevy 3/4 ton van to get 21 MPG.

$1,000 even for '92 VX, 230k miles. Getting 40+ MPG running around metro-Atl.
I wonder if I can eek out 45 MPG on a road trip? =D
