sounds that make car less noisey?

i was reading the 08 accord catalog, and it says when cruising at highway speeds, the engine will cut out 3 cylinders (v6 model) to save gas, and once that engeges, the radio speakers will play a sound to make that extra road noise go away.

does anyone know what noise is it? it will be cool if i can put that into a cd and play it in my civic, it will totally sound/feel like a lexus on the highway

I test drove an 08 Accord here the about five days ago and it is unnervingly quiet.

My understanding is the sound system is independent of the CD / radio player and is programmed to send opposing sound waves to those picked up by in cabin microphones produced by the fewer cylinders (either 4 or 3).

How this would work in another car is beyond my understanding of physics and electronics but it is an effective and viable system in the Accord.

Cheers , Pete.

I already think there is probably subliminal advertising and messaging in our day to day media exposure...never mind being a captive audience in a car where the manufacturer has control.

I remember The RoadWarrior..To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time..the world was powered by the black fuel & the desert sprouted great cities..Gone now, swept away..two mighty warrior tribes went to war & touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel, they were nothing..thundering machines sputtered & stopped..Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice

you could just buy some Bose noise canceling headphones for yourself, and let your passengers endure the road noise. ah, but then you couldn't hear the radio.

seriously, that's why you need to phase your audio speakers when you hook them up. they can cancel each other out too, and reduce the volume of the music.

even by turning off 3 cylenders the mpg numbers for the accord isn't that good. It's all about making a bigger and bigger cars which requires more engine to push them..
