That pcv valve...

looks like a pain to change. Plus, I had a hard time finding it. i thought they were usually up on the valve cover somewhere. Anyhow, getting to that bottom hose connect is looking tough from the top but its looking like its its gonna be tight getting in from the bottom also. I am gonna have a reason to raise the car fairly soon (torn cv boot). Is it easier to get to that bottom hose from under the car? 93 DX HB by the way.

Look at your intake manifold... On the front of the plenum (the part that distributes air from the throttle body to the 4 runners) there should be 2 or 3 vacuum lines. One of them is larger than the other(s) and runs down to a plastic elbow stuck in a holder between two of the runners. That plastic elbow is the PCV valve.

If you need to change the connector hose from the "black box" to the intake manifold, it's probably easier to get at it from below.

If, however, you only need to change the PCV valve itself - it just pops in and out from above quite straightforwardly. A bit snug sometimes but nothing complicated.

#6 is the PCV follow the big vac hose on the front of the intake plenum it will lead you right to it, just give it a little tug and twist should pop out

I may get flack for this but I've never bought a new PVC valve. I always just use carb cleaner and clean it till it rattles.

$.50 worth of carb cleaner from a $1.99 can or $5 for a new PVC valve. It makes sense to me.

haha.....I have done that also several times, although I usually just get a new one since they are not expensive and don't need to be replaced often..Then I saved the old cleaned out one for a spare. So let the flack begin.

Be careful with pulling it out. I've had them break before and then that makes a mess of things. You might want to spray some pb-blaster around it to loosen it up a little.

Assuming you can clean it out thoroughly, that's really the only issue with re-using old valves: the plastic gets brittle over time, making it easier to break.
