Would you buy a 92 Civic CX with a blown head gasket???

I have been looking for a 92-95 Civic Hatch CX or VX. I've found one in the price range that I wanted to spend on one, but it has a blown head gasket. I'm wondering now if I should go forward and get it, or just wait til one come around again in my price range, without this problem. Would do you guys think???

If it was cheap enough I would go for it.

If the headgasket is very blown, the entire motor could be bad. Luckily Honda D series motors cost less than very cheap, so replacing it won't cost a lot of you can do the work yourself. If you can't ask your mechanic how much he would charge to replace it.

Yeah, it depends on what you pay for it. I paid 1800 for mine that runs good but gets so-so mileage. So far I'm into it for about another $400 in parts and my own time and I'm hoping this next piece is the problem child and that my FE will rise. A new headgasket might just reveal a car with more problems, you never can tell. Its a gamble for sure. As long as you get a sweet deal up front you should be fine.

Yeah I'm getting it for $800 so I was thinking even having to put a little more money into it might still be a good deal.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Driving this F-150 everyday 55 miles a day is killing my pockets. I look forward to getting it and fixing it to run good mpg numbers like you guys. Hopefully its just a head gasket change and possibly thermo, hoses, and possible radiator replacements. I'd want to change those out anyway just in case that was the reason for overheating. Blown head gaskets are normally the cause of overheating right??

I would go for it. I have acquired 3 different Honda's which have had head gasket issues. All 3 of them I was able to get running, without having any significant issues with the blocks.

I would recommend you have the head rebuilt and surfaced, as well as use a straight edge to check the block to make sure it's flat. If you do the replacement, use a head gasket for a 92 Honda SX. It is a steel head gasket, which will help address the gasket failure issues.
