95 VX.. will not start. Died in reverse.

So I am new to the manual transmission. Having been riding motorcycles for a bit I am familiar with the principals ect. I was able to get the car home (100 miles) a few days ago with no problem. Today I was pulling out in reverse and I used to much gas puting it at a high rpm range.. the car moved and started to get bumpy for a second or two then the car died with a jolt. I went to start the car again and it will not start.

The car will turn but it will not run.. not getting any spark on all four plugs. It's not the timing belt, the coil is fine, fuel pump is working.. any idea of what it could be?

Thanks.

Re: 95 VX.. will not start. Died in reverse.

Was this a cold start, reverse and then killed it?

Could be a few things. Did you try putting it into 1st and then back to neutral with key forward, foot with gas pedal 'past' 80% open and attempting to start that way? You may have too much fuel dilution to restart if it was a cold start, among other thing.

Any CEL while driving the car home?

So, the coil is firing for sure? It will start but won't stay running?

EDIT: If you got spark at the coil, then your cap might have carbon fouling on the tips/rotor needs replacing, etc. Use original honda parts, or at least try to clean up the metal contact points inside the cap. Verify you can crank engine by hand with one of the front wheels raising(driver side preferably and cranking with extension or with car in 5th gear.

If you're not getting spark it likely has nothing to do with being in reverse.

The link below is for troubleshooting an Integra, not a VX, but they are similar enough that it should help you figure out what is wrong with your distributor.

I would be careful how you check for spark, pulling a plug and touching it to ground while turning the car over on a Honda is a good way to fry the coil.

^Yeah, use a spark plug tester instead.

Sounds like you may have flexed an engine mount so much in reverse that something which runs from the engine to the chassis got disconnected. Look along the firewall for unplugged wires or hoses and checn in the front of the engine for anything crushed.

Re: 95 VX.. will not start. Died in reverse.

So after doing testing, there was no spark. We had the ICM tested at autozone and according to them it is dead. I was hoping to get a second opinion but the other three auto part stores we went to either had machines that were down or did not have the setup to test the ICM. Crossing my fingers that this is the case.. should have the new part no later than Monday and I will give an update on what happens.

So was it just a coincidence then that this happened when I ****ed up going in reverse?

Maybe coincidence. Have you had any symptoms of hesitation or stalling before? Seems strange for it to suddenly happen. I would be checking all my wiring for corrosion. Perform a leak down test once the car starts running again. Check to be sure the ground side of the system is good.

After 8 minutes or so into this video; watch it all.

Re: 95 VX.. will not start. Died in reverse.

Is it a cranking no start or a no crank, no start?

Is there still no spark?

Cranking no start. Still no spark but will be testing again. Had the new and old ICM tested at NAPA and they both were fine.. go figure. Thank you autozone.. just wasted $50. Going to look over what you and others posted and see if I can get anywhere.
