Chrome would look so out of place on the car.

I will use Chrome on the truck, though. I already blinged the hood's front edge and the 4 doors...

Haven't you ever driven to the city? It doesn't matter if its out of place, or how bad it looks - the important thing is that you add as much as possible to the car. Do the doors, fenderwells, trunk lid, hood. I've even seen it used inside the vehicle to highlight the gauges and the dashboard. Any edge can be blinged with that stuff

Actually, wouldn't the past tense be "blung"? After all, "ring" -> "rung"...

Your lower block looks great on the VW, does it help your engine warm up time?

I made a smaller one just to see if it helped my engine warm up time and it didn't help IMHO, maybe I have to block off all the grill like you have done.

I did this in 5 minutes using cling film or saran wrap, I just disconnected my rad which does help the arm up time because there is far less water in the system to absorb heat.

I think the best benefit is better air flow over the hood.

Strangely enough, it seems like it had no effect on warm-up time at all. I drive 6.75 miles to the highway, and it stays stone cold until I get on the highway. Once I'm on the highway it warms up quickly.

I guess I should expect that regardless of the grille block..much of that non-highway part is EOC, and once I'm on the highway it's a steady 3000rpm.

I really want to find a way to heat the engine up very quickly, the cold cycle on my engine wastes so much fuel, until my engine block gets up to 82 degrees Celsius it is on a thirsty fuel table, by the time I drive 5 miles I am out the car, yet my friend has a GM car which heats up in 3 minutes.

Take a look at this thread...a block heater will help shorten your warm-up time:
http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=10000

I thought my GM was bad about taking forever to heat up (my dad's Toyota definitely beats it in that category), then I drove my VW. Well, my VW at least runs efficiently when it's cold...it just doesn't provide heat.

@ theholycow
Did adding a grille block result in gas savings? I am willing to do it to my Honda in the form of a grille bra, but before I spend $$$ on the project I want your blessing.

Thanks!
