Hey CO Zx2

Hey CO Zx2 : I noticed you covered your front wheels.
How did you do it ? I visited your 'garage', but saw just one picture.

More pictures please !!! ( Show us how you turn the wheels too )

Also, as slick as your car is and all, I was wondering why you still have your passenger side mirror.
In my car, I have no problems using mini fish eye mirrors mounted inside the car. ( Soccer moms use them to see the kids in the back seat )
More than once I have averted smashing into someone using one of these mirrors.

I was looking at the back end of a ZX2 yesterday and was noticing how rounded that it is. Have you ever considered applying a stip of tape to the back of the car and using it as a sort of trip wire to cut the turbulence down ?( You know..just give it sort of a small lip to trip the airflow )
I would think using electric tape will protect your paint ( it peels right up off of my car at least ) Also black tape looks less stupid .... at least less stupid than scotch take or some other tape .... still stupid though really .. but ... you know....

One last thing : You have a full bellypan right ? I would think that you only need that huge front lip spoiler to keep air from around the tires if the belly is smooth ..right ?
Right ow it is just adding to your frontal area.
Have you considered trimming it up some and just having it hang low in the area just in front of the tires ?

Moving that front plate down some might cut down on some drag too ... you might even see a + .0000025 % increase in your MPG.

Have you also considered blacking out the grill block / wheel mods to make it less obvious ? like this :

I like it being obvious. The car looks almost space aged at its current state .

Front wheel skirts.

Front skirts. Details are here:
http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=2173

Rubber inserts stretch as wheels turn. Returns flat.

Haven't had time to fool much with mirrors. I use my mirrors constantly to keep myself from being too much of a PITA on the highways. I have thought about it some but have not decided what I will do yet. I sometimes think too much:

And you think my fender skirts look weird? ^

I have been using air pressure/flow gauges for some time to analyze the mods to the car. Believe me, I have tried a lot more items than you see. I have managed to get the negative pressures at the back of the car reduced to atmospheric balanced against in-cabin pressure at 60 MPH. I also use the gauges to identify areas of turbulence. I will be very careful with any contemplated changes.

The air dam has a bigger effect on the air pressures at the rear of the car than I would have ever believed. I fully realize that I am exposing more frontal area but if it helps more than it hurts, I'm doing it. In fact, I ADDED another 3 inches to the air dam recently. Proved a sizable gain in coast tests. Not that it can't be improved upon, I'm still searching.

I have a belly pan from the front bumper to the front tires. That brings me to the rear of the engine oil pan. I had a 4 foot section rear of that and it messed up my wake pressures so bad, it didn't stay long.

As for looks, I am not too concerned. I do plan to paint the mods body color when I am satisfied with what I have. Get rid of all tape and spray-can paint jobs. Where does all this vainness about mod appearance come from?

I am more interested in results in FE. When my car got 43 MPG, I had none of the ugly creations you see. My last tank (filled 7/1/07) was 102 MPG. That tells me something but I'm not sure it tells anybody else anything.

Hope what I have done and my rants are a help. CO ZX2

How did you mount front skirt? It looks like on the picture that you screwed it into the fender.

There are two screws into the fender, 1 front & 1 rear.

Around the wheel opening I fastened hard plastic tubing to the fender lip, the screws go into the tubing. Comes off in 2 minutes or less.

N.l.a.m., have you been able to make determinations from your recent tuft-testing? If so, how do you plan to correct your problem areas? CO ZX2
