My Chrysler has the main grille blocked and has no trouble going up a 7-8% grade for 8 miles at 70mph (that's a 2000ft climb, BTW). Also will cruise all day long on the interstate at 85mph.

I wouldn't think any of the EVO's aero aids would benefit the hypermiler as it would all be directed towads cooling stabilty and downforce.

On the the Evo 7,8, and 9, the front underpanel was created to help guide air to cool the brakes. This design looks a bit similar, with a little more emphasis on cooling.

I believe that the middle diffusers would have more to do with lateral stability during a turn or cornering. As you turn, a car naturally rolls its weight to the outer wheels. Having these diffusers, you'd probably be able to create some downforce on the inside cornering wheels to help distribute weight to the inner wheels. It would seem that Mistubishi was trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by creating cornering stability and redirecting the air away from the rear wheels.

You guys also have to remember that this car also has a turbocharged engine which runs at a near constant 15-16 times atmospheric pressures. The engine bay with any turbo car can reach temeratures nearly 200X greater than that of a naturally aspirated car. You would have to sacrifice aero for cooling at that point.

I think you might want to rethink that number.

I have a turbo bus with a very confined space that is operated under a good load of its heavy body and then a trailer. I think at 200X the frame would melt.

It may be a bit exaggerated, but it will get hot enough to melt wires and such. Your turbo bus does not run 16psi constantly and the engine is not running at the efficiency as the EVO's engine. Efficiency as in producing that much horsepower from a little engine. That is quite the load on the engine components itself. Sure it has good towing compacity, if you put this engine on your frame it would do that and more.

I'd hate to be driving when the engine hits 30,000 degrees! (150f for mild NA car x200)

Even big diesels only hit 4x atmo on the boost gauge without MAJOR mods. stock turbo cars usually stay under 20 PSI which is not even 1.5x atmo

Diesels run at 40% efficiency while gassers are at about 33% too.
