Honda says they'll make them for an MSRP of $3.98/W:

But really, when, and how much will they be at my house?

$4/watt sounds nice.

Tulsa: all of the above. I have a couple of small panels now, and I use them for various things, moving them around to charge/maintain batteries in the cars, house, sailboat. A 15-30w panel would make a nice 12v accessory battery charger for either car.

No plans to do a big array for the house (at this point).

Mostly I'm just interested in trying it because it seems like an interesting little project.

That's cool, and I agree it is interesting. One of these days I'd like to drop 30-$50 on some cheap cells and try it out too. Let us know how it goes.

this place used to be in NJ . then i think someone bought it in NY. it was a science/military depot , lots of neat stuff to look at. just click on solar energy, they have some solar cells that you can solder together. I'm not sure if its a good price but check it out. emunds http://scientificsonline.com/default...cd2=1181865453

I've tried it and have been somewhat successful making small modules for toys. Soldering is indeed tough because the foil grid printed on the surface of the cells is VERY thin and easy to damage. Also the glass they use is special stuff with a non reflective surface. The backing also is special plastic, I believe it's called Tedlar. Then you have the extruded aluminum frame, connector boxes, bypass diodes, etc..

BTW: My home is off grid and powered by PV modules.
