Wow. Haleakala was quite a drive, biking it is a HUGE deal!

You live on Maui? Know of any IT job openings?

"winter '10" miles (Jan 1 to date): 101.1

Plus a reminder to add in 20 miles for the next report. Ya see..... I decided to put up the mountain bike and start taking the DeRosa road bike, but I had forgotten just how bad the headset was on it.
So I took the Vitus, but that one doesn't have a computer mount and pulse detector, thus the undocumented 20 mile commute. Geez! I had also forgotten how nice light sew-up tires on light wheel sets can be!
I rebuilt the headset in the DeRosa by pulling out the caged bearings and stuffing it with loose bearings. That'll get me another year's use out of this head set.....
Hey, inch threaded headsets are getting to be as scarce as 5 speed chains and down tube shift levers...

Nice ride, that! Bigger than an Alpine climb!

I got mine out yesterday and began my annual commuting. Goal: >2500 km and -20 lbs.

Sixth ride today. Cold in the AM (like 32 degrees F) but should be warmer (50?) on the ride home. Weather up here has sucked a lot.

The ride on Monday was nice: warm, slight tailwind and an average speed of 29 km/h. Today it's Friday, cold and raining but I rode anyway. 5 minutes longer into work because conditions were so nasty, still the average speed was about 26.5 km/h.

I hope next week has better riding weather.

The weather has sucked a$$ the last month or two but I have still managed to get twelve rides in. Yesterday's was the fastest, at an average speed of 30.5 km/h. I still weigh about 20 lbs too much!

I've probably done about 1000 km as well this year. Not sure exactly since I don't have a bike computer. Just did a 40 mile ride last night, averaging 18 mph (29 km/h). I love my recumbent bike (Bacchetta Giro 20). It is SO comfortable and makes long rides a joy, but it takes more effort to keep the speed up, especially over hills, since the bike weighs 35 lbs (16 kg)!
