Engine choices, too many and too confusing

I know this has been discussed before, I can't remember what the outcome was. But when users set up a vehicle profile, and they are asked to select an engine variant, the H4, L4, gas/diesel options are confusing and often, there are more choices than actually exist. This also becomes apparent when researching vehicles and applying filters, some cars which might only have 2 engine choice options, have 6 or 7 options to choose from, and it's obvious from the split that pepeople don't fully understand and just click one "that will do"

Would it not be better to offer the capacity of the engine in Cc or litres? I think most countries the World over use litres as a form of measuring engine capacity, 2.0 litre, 3.0 litre and so on. And then perhaps have a fuel option, gas diesel, hybrid, electric. Just an idea to make researching vehicles easier, and of course, with less options, all the data combined will be far more accurate than spread across variants of engines and fuels in cars that don't even exist.

I have noticed that the filter has some engine choices duplicated.

We do plan to address the duplicates and also simplify the engine choices.

I believe the game plan as of now is that we're going to wait until we've mapped out a large majority of the mobile user's vehicles and then start sorting them/grouping them appropriately.

Cool. I'm kind of used to it now, but new users might find it confusing, and it's obviously not helping with the data.

I agree! I didn't see the description of the options, just the choices - I initially choose H4, as I imagined my engine was shaped more like a H than an L (groan!). It was only later I found the descriptions and adjusted it accordingly to L3.
And yes, for researching purchase choices, knowing whether a 1.1 or 1.4 diesel, 1.2 or 1.6 petrol is giving the result you are looking at would surely help. Sometimes the owner may put the engine size in the description, but usually it is just the make and model, and gas or diesel.
Don't get me wrong, this is a fab site and sure beats staring at cars and guessing what they get to the gallon, or worst still, using the manufacturers "test" figures!

Try checking your settings again, both settings where I showed you. Then try clearing your history and/or cookies. Failing that, log out and then back in again and if all else fails, try a simple phone off, phone on again. Sometimes things just need a reboot!

Do you want me to just add it to your signature? That way you don't have to keep copy/pasting it into every post?
