First tracked fill calculated at 225 MPG ???

Yes, I searched the forum before posting this question -

I track based on odometer reading and the vehicle profile is set as such. I began tracking at mileage 225982.0 and then filled the tank again at 226488.0 for a first tank mileage of about 500 miles. Fuel used between the beginning of tracking and the second fill was 14.25 USG. Fuelly reports mileage on the FIRST log entry (when I started tracking) to be 230 MPG. This erroneous number throws off future stats and averages. What am I doing wrong or missing here that would cause the first entry on the log to have a mileage calculated against it? ...shouldn't it be blank until I reach the second log entry?

Help, please...

Vehicle in question This VW Beetle

Take a look at your Log Book- http://www.fuelly.com/car/volkswagen...dam/271723/log

Your latest fill-up on Jun 23 2014 has an odometer reading of 222,850.
That odometer is less than your first fill on Feb 28 2014 which was at 225,982.
Fuelly will sort by Odometer reading (because, ideally, that should be the best way to keep things in order) so it's showing a difference of 3,132 miles between those 2 odometer readings. Divided by the the 13.57 gallons you used, gives you the 230 MPG you see.

Edit your last fill-up to be correct, and all should get calculated correctly from there.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the prompt response and for politely pointing out that I'm a dope.

I didn't realize Fuelly would auto sort like that, thought it would at least throw an error if the odometer reading were negative while the date was positive.

Thanks again!!!

Not a problem. Glad it was a relatively simple fix.

You're right about needing an error message when the odometer that is entered looks to be incorrect.
We'll be adding one soon.

Jumping onto an old thread since it seems relevant. I purchased a motorcycle and haven't been tracking mpg from day 1. I'm at 824 miles on the odometer now. How do I "start" fuelly tracking without actually logging a fill up? I want to have a starting point, but it doesn't let me input the odometer reading with no gas added.

Your first entry looks to be correct then. This is your starting point. Now, your next fillup can start calculating MPG.
