Americans bought 17,470,659 new cars in the year 2015, beating the record from 2000 (17,402,486 cars). The Jeep and the F-150 sold very well this year. I don't want to sound like an old bitter white guy, but the last time the F-150 / Jeep sold well the recession happened very shortly. Here is a complete list on who did well and who didn't:

Ford sold 780,354 F-150s this year, making it the best selling pick-up in 39 consecutive years and the best selling vehicle in the US for 34 straight years. That's $34 billion in sales just on the F-Series alone.

It's nice to know the economic status is on the rise again. But sad in a way to think that so many people are still opting for large, inefficient high emission vehicle types when we should all be considering the environment more and moving away from fossil fuel dependency.

If it isn't a concern for today's buyers, it has been one for the manufacturers.

Today's F150 (2WD, auto, non-flex fuel) is rated at 20 and 22 mpg EPA.
The pre-recession and gas price spike, 2007 F150s were at the mid teens.
