When I was about 15 or so, I read "The Population Bomb". They were predicting seven billion by about 10 years ago. We've done a little better.

That book was the main reason I have never had any kids (something most people just don't understand).

Thinking about it, though...I'll be at the top level of the Social Security pyramid club in about 13 or 14 years...hope there's enough new folks at the bottom paying in...

Reality check. I don't know where you got your figures from, but they don't remotely approach reality. A study by the Commonwealth Fund found seven out of ten working age women, or 64 million, are uninsured or underinsured for health care. Add >39% of working age men, and the figures are about twenty times worse than your claims. The situation is far from the rosy scenario you propose.

reality? the liberal view of counting illegals and those that choose not to buy health insurance is quite slanted for political and agenda expediency. did you read my previous post in its entirety?

granted, the 5 million(or more) is an issue, but rushing into the first half-debated legislation would be a huge mistake. just like welfare, the ones that need the most care, might not get it!

Who are these people that can't afford insurance anyways? I have no degree and have had health insurance since I graduated high school(my first job was $7.75/hr in a call center).

Heck, my last job I made a whooping $11.00 an hour supporting me and my (ex)gf that was a full time student. I not only paid for my health care but hers too and we had plenty of money to still eat out, go to the movies every weekend, and all the bills were paid.

I think there are more heads than listed above. Malpractice costs, the status of supply vs. demand, aging population that is kept alive for longer with more expensive treatment (the same can be said of terminally ill patients), and probably some other things I missed are also huge contributors to the cost.

$11/hr: 440/wk, 1907/mo, 22880/yr. Let's say the government goes easy on you, and you take home 80% of that: 352/wk, 1525/mo, 18304/yr. In RI, you could not rent a studio apartment in the ghetto and pay for the cheapest individual health plan available, let alone for two people to eat groceries and one person to go to school, and presumably a car, and then eating out too? Can't be done. Cost of living must be much less where you live.
