I give Hoshi tuna when it's her birthday or when she catches a mouse.

No tuna allowed in my house, much to the cats' chagrin. Wife is very very allergic to fish and seafood of most varieties and I can't stand the smell.

Is Hoshi named for a Star Trek character?

My ex had a baby name book (now that I think about it, odd for a woman who had known all her life she couldn't have kids) and we looked to it for inspiration when we adopted the cats. Azami initially hissed a lot at Hoshi (who was a kitten) and we found that "Azami" was a Japanese girl's name that meant the flower of a thistle. Since she was pretty and a little prickly, we thought it made sense. They became fast friends soon enough. To keep a consistent theme we went with Hoshi, which means "shooting star" or just "star", also a female Japanese name. No real reason for that one.

The cutest Hoshi and Azami being friends story is when we moved into a new apartment and as I was putting the pots away for the first time I opened the drawer beneath the stove. They had found a way into it through the back and were curled up together in there grooming each other. When I pulled the drawer out, their expressions were priceless: "What the hell is going on??!!!".

Now I remember why she had that book - she had just changed her own name. Must've gotten it for inspiration.
