Holy smokes! $1.30 a gallon for gas?!? That's like 34.2 freaking cents a litre! The cheapest gas I ever saw (back when I got my first car in 2002) was about 65 cents a litre (I remember being able to drive my '86 Oldsmobile 88 on my $20/week allowance). I can only imagine going 400 miles on $10 with the Geo today.

Something is obviously very wrong in the current oil-consuming world today. Look at how little the gas/crude oil price fluctuated just 5 years ago *sends shivers up spine*. I can only imagine the next 5 years .

I remember when gas was 69 cents a gallon in my town (1998?).

The summer that I was 17 I could fill up my 87' Dodge Omni, grab a Mountain Dew and a package of Little Debbie zebra cakes for less than $10

I don't miss the $0.75 Gas at all.


For that matter, I don't miss Mountian Dew and zebra cakes at all either...eww...

LOL i hated zebra cakes from about 4th grade on. never really did like MD.

ive been driving for only 4 years now so i would crap myself if i could fill up my 20 gal tank for $14!!!! sheesh my chevette would be like $9...

One thing I think that is cool about that graph I posted is that it shows the increasing gap between the price of oil and the price of gas. If they were very closely correlated gas would be $5 to $6 a gallon right now.

What do you want me to say, it is what it is.

We could talk about growing food locally, or about how meat takes a lot more energy to make or a lot of other potentially volitile topics (like riding a bike apparently). If you have a better way to frame it, then bring it.

It's all a matter of the market taking care of itself. When fossil fuel costs are too expensive, we will revert to more local food supply chains or find other ways to get the job done.

Right now, fuel is cheap, so people and industry make liberal use of it. When supply really does fall behind demand, attitudes will change very quickly. The only question is whether people can align their lives with those attitudes as quickly as needed.
