I used to do this when I had my 1998 Nissan Frontier King Cab. I had 15 gallon plastic barrels/jugs that were blue so I had to fill up at night (no other difference in the plastic, just SUPPOSED to be red for gas grr) and I could fill up all 13 of them plus the tank. This when gas alternated between $1.98 and $3.02. I could make a GREAT savings knowing when gas would go up (Memorial day, etc.) and back down - just siphoned it. Storage was a little of an issue - and eventually got rid of the vehicle and the cans. Wish I had a long-range tank on the CRX to help with this situation when traveling - take advantage of 25?-50? difference!

i filled each to exactly 1 gal. one was pumped such that the filler lever was fully depressed, the other about half way.

in order make the quick fill exact, i had to slow down near the end, eliminating any frothyness(?).

i've tried this in my car with seemingly good results. my only doubt would be in respect to variations in the pump.
