For that price I expect a chinese kid to live in the back and run to the store and buy milk when it's out.

Without fuel, they were nothing..thundering machines sputtered & stopped..Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice

My fridge has the coils on the bottom. The only way I've found to clean them well is with an electric leaf blower. Be prepared to clean the whole kitchen afterward though.

SoCal Edison has been offering something like this for years. For their rebate, you turn in your old, working fridge for a new energy star unit.

Frankly, I wish I could still get by with my old brown 1970 fridge that had a freezer compartment inside the fridge. I loved it. Kept my beer nice and cold. Kept my steaks like I wanted them until I cooked them. My electric bill ran about $15.00 per month. Only cost me $60 used, 10 years old. Used it for several years, until my wife moved in. She hated it, made me spend somewhere between $500-600 for a floor model new unit from Monkie Wards. At least I was able to sell my old one to someone else for $75.00.

I just want to use outside air.
Summer: blow the heat from the compressor and evaporator out side.
Winter: Direct air-to-air heat exchange, fan only, no compressor needed when it's sub zero.
I recall there were articles by someone that treaked the thermostat on a chest freezer so that it would maintain just above freezing temp range and easily made a very efficient top-open fridge.
