Damn thieves!!

After fixing up and doing maintenance on my Civic VX, the car got stolen. It's a 1993 with dents, broken headlights, and rusts with a stock stereo from 1993 that doesn't display the channels. Would never expected the car to get stolen and after owning it for 3 years, it was gone after parking at a safe neighborhood...

I had invested $1400 on repairs within the past 2 months, including the o2 sensor, and am expecting the insurance will probably savage the car... Which to them will probably worth $1000... Car only had 119K miles and have every single record/oil change since 1993!

Damn thieves just have to destroy another stock VX!!

Any ideas or suggestions on how to get more from the insurance company?

Re: Damn thieves!!

Sorry to hear that...

When the insurance totaled out my 87 civic because of a dented fender (other guy's fault), they totaled it and offered me $600, but gave me the option to buy it back for $75. Then I had to get a salvage title- which was no big deal- just another $20 and I had to wait for a few weeks on the salvage title before I could drive it again.

I assume you have full coverage for the insurance company to give you any money for theft/vandalism. I also assume you have a low deductible (not over $500) If so, do not have it towed to your house. It will likely automatically get towed to the tow truck lot (don't protest this) where it will cost your insurance company about $20- 50 per day in storage fees. Just don't demand that it be towed to a place with a storage fee either. Then take your time with the negotiations- when they see how much they are paying in storage fees and that bill adding up (you can remind them as you negotiate)- they will be more likely to settle in your favor. They should also give you a rental vehicle for at least a week while you are settling.

Probably going to buy it back and sell it as-is for someone who wants a very reliable car that I have every single record/maintenance since 1993. Freshly installed NGK o2 sensor last month also!

Re: Damn thieves!!

That absolutely sucks. I'm sorry dude. You can definitely post it here as a parts car. I'm sure someone would want it. Heck, I would've bought it for $1K if I still had my old one (also red).

Re: Damn thieves!!

ouch, looks like someone knew exactly what they wanted. If it were a random steal-everything-and-sell-all they would have taken a lot more I think.

buddy of mine had his car broken into a while back (good neighborhood, very little through-traffic). they broke the rear 1/4 window and stole all his tools. the catch is they left the stereo, radar detector, and some other odds and ends in the front seat AND the tools were in a dirty nondescript backpack so whoever did it already knewwhat was in the bag. anyone else would see a beat up old backpack in a car missing half the interior with some minor goodies up front.
