None of those lupo records beat even the one set by dan's crew a few years back in the prius, not to mention the most recent in the insight, though most know of the lupo antics, I think,

I posted the Lupo figures in response to comments about the apparant dearth of recent MPG records on the books. I was simply surprised that it hadn't been mentioned.

Also, not to belittle Dan's achievements or anyone else's in the Insight Marathon, but I find the Lupo's records a bit more impressive given they reflect (as far as I can tell) more realistic driving conditions. The Lupo's 80-day round-the-world trip covered 20,699 miles at an average speed of 53.1 MPH and still came in close to a 100 MPG average.

The lupo is indeed and interesting car. I wish VW didn't hate hybrid technology so much or they might have something really good there,

I wonder what the gearing is.

Transport Canada drove their Audi A2 TDI across Canada a few years ago, and averaged under 3 L/100 km; impressive because it is a large car that seats 5 comfortably.
