Holiday by 100 ton diesel hybrid - short movie posted

At some point next week (not exactly sure which day), I'm taking off on a holiday for a week or two.

And I can even spin a fuel economy theme into this thread: I'll be travelling on a 100 ton diesel hybrid that regularly gets better mileage than my Fireflea.

Woohoo! Someone wants to play along!

Nope, it's not a train. (Though you could make a case for a train full of people getting better fuel economy per person than a car. )

This one actually uses less fuel overall than my car under the right operating conditions. (Which aren't that uncommon.)

The power to weight ratio is pretty wild too: 0.00015 (hp/weight in lbs)

EDIT: that's just the diesel portion of the powertrain

Also, it's a custom conversion. You don't see many of these.

OK so you have a 30 hp diesel hybrid. May I ask at what average speed will you be traveling?

Whoops, sorry Dan - I missed a zero (fixed): It's got 300 HP. Average speed will be about 10 mph.

thisisn'tjared was probably closest, but it's more of an old eco-friendly ship.

I guess I would have given it to mtbiker278 first if he hadn't edited his post ("of sorts" covers a lot of territory!)

I'll be sailing from Ontario to Nova Scotia on the schooner Mist of Avalon. It is a dual-power hybrid...

Such devious behavior! Playing upon our standard definition of a hybrid were you?

Just kidding...that looks like it's going to be fun...

That's to cool. Have you been on the open water before? It hard to believe that it weights that much. Be sure and post a few pic when you get back.
