There is absolutely NO downside to increased domestic oil exploration, extraction and refining. But the greenies will never let that happen. Especially since they have done such a great job convincing the people that all politicians are in bed with big oil.

You honestly think the oil companies are going to prevent themselves from making more money?

i believe clencher is correct about the lack of interest in building new refineries. however, new drilling would most def change minds...$$$.

forgot tho, profit, even if it stimulates the economy(and God forbid, take us out of a possible reccession), is EVIL!

i believe, the idea is that since oil companies cannot drill here at home to keep up w/ demand, they do not want to fund such a huge expense as a refinery. and refurbishing the present ones is of no interest as well.

i with ya tho, new drilling is imperative to not only fuel prices, but the US economy!

If it's all the same as far as US jobs go, I'd rather buy (and see others buy) cars based on their merit, rather than red white and blue nationalist prejudice. If you want to make sure a car was manufactured in the US, all you have to do is look at the VIN number visible through the windshield near where it meets the dash. If the VIN starts with a 1, the car was built in a US production plant.

Except, when we really need it for plastics and other goods, we won't have it. Better to save it for when things get bad.

As to the refineries, it's basic economics. By having a bottleneck with refinery capacity, an artificial decrease in supply is made. So price goes up along with demand.
