usually the cars looked like crap anyways so whats another issue

I think the rule here (as far as inspections go) is if your wipers will go over them without damaging them, you are good to go.

worked for a place that did field service (electronic repair). all the vehicles were some sort of wagon (mixed and matched). many taurus wagons and a cavalier wagon and maybe some others. almost all of them had cracked windshields. some were really bad but still passed inspection.
