Post The Official GT4 Prius II MPG competition thread!

Let's get this started....

Lowest fuel consumption wins. Where fuel consumption is equal, best time wins.

Run the track in "Practice" mode. Run one lap and record gallons used and lap time after your first lap.

Permitted mods:

None!

Permitted car setup:

Driving aids on, or off - your choice.

Circuit: Citta di Aria (normal)

(We can do other courses too.)

2.11 miles. This course is just long enough to do in stealth mode - if you're careful. Hills provide some regen opportunities.

The PS2 will accelerate the car towards the start of the practice lap before it hands you the reins, using about 0.002 gallons in the process. I think it's possible to do the whole thing without firing the ICE, and keep it pegged at 0.002.

Note: we're deducting fuel used before crossing the start line to begin the lap from total used at the finish of the lap.

Results:

(time - gallons used - driver - date)

1 - 5'27.731 - 0.000 - Jared - Jan 10/07
2 - 5'33.669 - 0.000 - Jared - Jan 10/07
3 - 3'35.736 - 0.001 - Darin - Jan 10/07
4 - 3'42.342 - 0.001 - Darin - Jan 10/07
5 - 4'03.285 - 0.002 - Jared - Jan 10/07
6 - 3'20.311 - 0.014 - Darin - Jan 10/07

Gentlemen! Start your... er... DON'T start your engines!

you are talking about just one lap right? meaning the time(and fuel) spent gaining speed before you hit the line to begin the lap doesnt count

on the way to the finish line, back up the hill i slowed down to 2mph to avoid using the gas hahaha

Right. So you deducted the .002 gallons used before crossing the start line the first time? I didn't - so I'll correct mine now. That's OK with me.

Nice work!

this time i didnt feel like going 2mph so i only slowed to 7 but i still had to use enough gas to maintain that speed. the key to the whole track is that 180 turn when you first start going up hill. if you can take it over 25mph and hold at least 5mph until the finish line, then you are in good shape. i am convinced that a sub 4 minute time is possible using no gas.

also i do not like how the computer wastes some gas for you before you start and my best laps are usually done the 2nd time around for some reason....

I forgot about this thread!

Until this weekend - my brother in law got a PS2 steering wheel. Man, that's fun! Breathes new life into the game if you're tired of it. I'd only ever driven with the controller up until this weekend.

Updated Results:

EDIT: -
BTW I'm making sure to start each lap with 0.002 showing. - ie not using any fuel before the starting line. Is that what you were doing?

i would do a fully lap pressing it to warm the tires and to smooth out my rough spots.

i dont understand how your fastest time used the least fuel. i want pics and are you sure thats a 100% factory prius with stock tires, oil change, and of course no other modding??

Yeah, it's dead stock. Tires: Med (S2).

Does the game even account for tire temps in practice mode (when it doesn't show the tire temp "icons" on the screen)?

I guess I'm going to have to video tape my lap!

I wonder if your warm up lap takes some power out of the batts, even if you're starting with full bars. That would make it harder to do a gasless lap (even if you start at high speed).

I also turned off all driving aids. If you don't, I think the engine starts up and uses fuel when the stability control kicks in.
