We ended up with almost 2 feet. Not a problem in my 4wd pickup truck though. We did not have a shortage of idiots on the roads though. In one instance I looked in my side view mirror and saw a red sportscar sliding sideways towards me, and when I say sideways, I mean it. I saw his tail lights in my mirror.

One of my roommates is from Florida. He has a Japanese something or other SUV. We all told him he'll be fine going out as long as he gave himself pleanty of room to stop. He got stuck 30 feet from the driveway. I didn't know they made those trucks w/o 4wd. I've never seen one.

The roads were not closed, but 4wd was necessary to get around. We went out to get lunch, and the only restaurant open was IHOP. Everything else was closed. Even the mall was closed.

EGADS! The mall was closed the Sunday before Christmas? That's downright unamerican!

Lots of SUVs are 2wd. Car-based ones are FWD, truck-based ones are RWD. I don't know of a model that's not offered in 2wd.

We got probably about 14 inches here. I ended up paying $40 for a plow to do most of the work, and I still spent 2 1/2 hours shoveling. This being December, we could get a lot more snow accumulation before stuff starts to melt, so it behooves me to shovel wide this time.

When I had a plow truck, I found it was way too hard to plow up my kinda steep driveway, so I'd plow down it instead. That also allowed me to pile snow in front of my well (positioned idiotically at the bottom of my driveway) to protect it against sliding cars. I asked the guy to do the same but he just wanted struggle to plow up. The last time I had someone plow, it was the same thing.

Yes, I was shocked. We drove out to the mall because we thought the restaurants there would be open for the shoppers. I fully expected the mall to be open.

As far as 2wd SUV's goes, I knew you could get a Ford or a GM SUV in 2wd, I don't count "car based" as its not an SUV if its not a truck to me. For some reason I thought 4wd was standard on the imports though. I've never seen an import SUV before that wasn't 4wd. I guess people in this area just don't buy them in 2wd.

yea by me the 94 and older chevy blazer (s-10 blazer specifically not the K-5) its hard to find a 2wd version. thier mostly all 4wd

I think the reason is that up until about 1 & 1/2 years ago a 4wd truck in good mechanical condition was worth at least $5,000 (at least in this area.) Since these trucks were worth more, people were more likely to spend money to keep them on the road.

We haven't had sticking snow in the Bay Area below 3000' elevation since, well, I don't think it's happened in my lifetime. We've had icy road conditions twice in the past 20+ years, though. Does that count?
