I just sold mine with Salvage title (although completely refurbished) and 200k miles for $5500... The bay area market for VX cars is nuts!

Gas is over $4.50 a gallon in the Bay area, that's how. Add to that insane commute times and you see why the VX and the Prius sell well there.

I know someone who quit her job (2-3 hours commute time EACH WAY - that means 3 hours in stuck traffic, really less than a half hour drive with no traffic) to start a daycare in her own home. What she loses in big salary she more than gains in gas & maintenance savings, plus can now have children of her own! Basically she was spending a couple hours every day working to pay for the gas, insurance, oil changes, engine wear, etc., PLUS 4-6 hours a day on the road! Not to mention that she was making large vehicle payments, so you figure HALF of her money from the job went into the vehicle in one way or another. May only make half as much now, BUT - lower tax bracket means she keeps more money, doesn't have to pay for expensive vehicles (can afford just a nice little beater car), and nowhere near the stress, not breathing fumes all day, probably a hundred other things.

Move close to your work and/or change your job, increase happiness.

THAT is why a VX is so expensive in the Bay area.
