I think for $4000 you can find a really good Del Sol locally. Just my opinion.

Try car dealerships. It's a longshot, but perhaps they'll have some open space on a truck that's passing through the area?

Would it be cheaper if they picked it up near Chicago? I could drive it to my dads house in North Aurora, IL to pick up the VX and just leave it there for the shipper to pick up.

Oh, man I'll bet your right. I forgot, he's in Cali or something, right? Yeah, he could easily fly one way for somewhere between $200 and $500. I know Westjet will fly you across Canada for ridiculously low prices.
