Another idea for free museum passes: Check with your local library. Libraries often have passes available "for loan". For example, the Greenville RI library's available museum passes:

(A lot of those are really just discount coupons, but some are free.)

By the way, this is for a whole bunch of museums, nationwide, and not just the Smithsonian.

There are steps to follow to find a participating museum near you.

1. Scroll the right side to: Museum Day, Sept 26. Click it.
2. Click; "for museums"
3. Click; "find a venue" and type in your city or state. Each 'bubble' is a museum that is part of the program.

Tickets are for two, at some places.
