I'd have to agree with that. You have a whole set of mods you can apply too. I looked at it on the web :

2001 Ford ZX2 - (Reliability issues)

Quote:
Occasional problems with this vehicle are failures of the Variable Camshaft Timing Actuator and Sprocket (2.0L VIN 3 only), the Flex Plate ( 2.0L VIN 3 Automatic Transmission only), and the Fuel Pump. Failure of the Fuel Pump may prevent the engine from starting. The cost to repair the Variable Camshaft Timing Actuator and Sprocket is estimated between $300.00 to $900.00 for parts and $195.00 for labor. The cost to replace the Flex Plate is estimated at $60.00 for parts and $370.50 for labor. The cost to replace the Fuel Pump is estimated at $260.00 for parts and $52.00 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65.00 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.
(Not knocking the car in the above quote, all cars have their "issues", just keeping eyes wide open)

However, it was quoted as $6K in the above, but you need to do more research to find out for sure.
