Sold car for bike...

Simple as that
I went from a 2001 Integra Type R 37mpg max to a 2002 Honda XR650L and hit 45mpg so far.
Sure it doesn't carry as much and the bugs dirty up my visor at night, but for all the local driving I do it's saving me $$$ on gas and basic costs of a car.

I will however be buying a 99.5- 2003 Ford E350 7.3l TD for work,,, as soon as I find one I like.

Just wanted to stop in and share.
Til later.

Not sure what your intentions are with the honda, but a change of gearing and road tires would help bring that mileage up. I don't think you will see better than 60mpg though. I have a 200 lifan and my best has been 77mpg.

My intentions are to use it as intended, a Dual Sport.
Slab, dirt and anything else I can find.
As mentioned, it's my only vehilce so it's being used for everything.

Good on ya, mate.. that's awsome.. my previous attempts to use motorcycle as my only vehicle always led me to more two-wheel vehicles.

Almost the same here, sometimes I ride my girlfriend's Hyosung GV250, though it's for fun and keep that other bike running too (she doesn't have her riding license yet).
But I don't have a car at all Pretty inconvenient in the winter, I must admit, I commute by bus, once a week (and sleep at my moher's place, she lives 4.5km from my workplace, easy to reach by bycicle or on foot), instead of by bike every day; or when I'm in night shift and it doesn't freeze in the afternoons I time my trips accordingly...
(And a used car would be cheaper to buy and maintain than Teresa (my 2004 BMW F650CS), it's true too... not balanced by the better FE, but absolutely balanced by the fun...)

I have an 01 XR650L too! I've put street tires on in and keep them inflated hard, but I can never top 52 mpg. If you want better mileage out of the box, buy a Suzuki 250 single cylinder.

And I sold my bike because the car got better fuel mileage....
45 mpg Honda GL1500 vs. 52 mpg VW Passat TDI
(those are duration-of-ownership averages, not one-time best)
220 mile range vs. 900 miles (1200 in the Passat wagons I got later on)
89 octane fossil gasoline vs. renewable lower carbon biodiesel
air vs. climate controlled air

No, I lie.... I sold the GoldWing to get the money to buy my Saab Sonett.
I do miss the bike, but they're easier to find than another Sonett.

I get easily 53 us MPG with my Honda CBF600S (2009), a 78 BHP 4-cylinder.
I should start a gaslog for that one too.
In the past I owned two one-cylinders too (an Aprilia Pegaso 650 and a Yamaha SZR660Supersingle). The Aprilia was worser than the Honda and the Yamaha the same as the much more powerfull Honda 4-cylinder.
So my experience: one cylinder motorcycles are by far not the best for fuel economy.
Even my 1994 Honda CB Sevenfifty was better than the Aprilia.

45 mpg is about right for a 'Wing...that's about what I got out of my '81 GL1100 some years ago.

Honda 750...about 50 mpg.

Yamaha XS400 and Triumph 650...60+ mpg.
