What have I gotten myself into?

I'm going to finish pulling the head of the parts bike so I can pull the trans off the block to have a look at the input/output shafts and see if the block really did throw a rod. Then I should probably check the "good" bike by
-Pulling off the trim
-Change the oil
-Charge the batt
-Fix electrical(?)
-Do a compression test
If something's really wrong, I'll just part out what I can. If it's all good, I'll move on and start rigging up the ITBs/saving for MS while doing stuff like changing the fork oil/seals, etc... Does anyone have any comments/suggestions? I'm in it for ~$45 so far, but I think I could make more than that back if I have to part it.

edited for a better pic

QFT!
Btw, Honda uses soft freikin metal in their heads. Maybe I'm just a nub, but I've already semi-stripped a couple bolts and had to resort to the Imperial+mallet method.

Ah, never work on a bike when tired. I had to grind a bolt off holding one of the timing chain sprockets on, just because I missed a little section about removing a couple cam keepers(?) and stripped it. But it's off, and the damage is minimal.

This is why you plug the exhaust ports when storing a parts bike.

The head looked pristine.

And here are a set of ITBs off of a Yami YZF-R1 ($30 of my $45 budget!) . Too big for the engine, but I'm sure any problems with low end torque can be bandaided by proper intake pipe length/size.

You know where I'm goin' meng!
Off a YZF-R1, so they should supply more than enough air/fuel, and they have sliders too, so it should be pretty smooth. I'm looking for cheap'ish flywheel holders, so until then I won't be able to split the case.

$45!!! Frikkin' awesome man! The best bike I ever owned was a 71, 72, and 73 Honda 350. I got the 72 from a friend for $20, it sat in his garage for YEARS! The 71 and 73 I got in cardboard boxes (all disassembled) for $10 from a guy who was gonna scrap them.

Pieced it all together, bought some non-dry-rotted tires (the tubes were still OK!) and rode it for a year! Finally sold it when my daughter was on her way

Nothing like ripping a bike apart and building it again for a real feeling of accomplishment!

So... is the bike inside the house, or is the garage carpeted

Nothing like working on a motorcycle in the living room!

@Odie - Definitely. I just wish I could make up my mind about what I want to do with it! FI or no? Taller gearing? Fairings? Arghh!
@Metro - Just the garage. I wouldn't hear the end of it otherwise.
