The 31/38 numbers are the old EPA rating of 2000 Chevy Prizm.

What a difference a few years can make...

in 2000, toyota implimented the VVTI motor giving FE a needed boost, perhaps to keep up with honda?

BTW, consumer reports named the 2000-2002 prizm as one of the best(and most efficient) used cars. CR doesn't hold a lot of pull with me, but they can't always be wrong(or right).

since i found mine by mistake, certainly it is a true sleeper!

I had a '96 Chevy Corsica with the 2.2 OHV and 3-speed Auto.
Usually got 32mpg although a few times of 34 and one low of 27 (my 17yr old son drove it). Really happy with it but it didn't hold up so good to a 2 3/4 times roll over (again my 17yr old son).

2000 Sunfire 2.2l 5MT is EPA rated 21/24/31, so mid-thirties at high speed without any hypermiling effort sounds like a hypermile sleeper to me.

And actually if you look at the "grill" openings, they don't let air go directly on the radiator. I forget if you could block them off completely, but if I remember right the Sunfire is like the old Firebird where it gets all of the air from under the bumper.

My first car was a chevette diesel. Saw 60mpg once. average was over 45mpg.
