Why has Location suddenly become unavailable in Fuelup

I have been happily adding fuel logs in Fuelly for some time - but now on this latest log am greeted with the Nag screens to upgrade and am unable to enter the info as I had been doing over the life of the vehicle.

Using the web interface shows the location as now being a locked field?

What changed?

I thought it was just me. Haven’t been using the app for long, so wondered why this was now a nag screen feature. Not sure how location is a “premium” feature”...

If they wanted $10 a year, maybe I’d donate to the premium, but its just too expensive for my liking.

Google raised prices for Google Maps 1,400 to 10,000%. The month after this change, our Google bill exceeded the Fuelly revenue. We were forced to make locations subscription only.

We will release an update to allow manual location entry soon.

Many thanks for the news - a very disappointing action on the side of Google (I did a quick search and it seems the impact is hurting a lot of developers.

Perhaps a small notice within the app - or on the website - could be useful. That way the users know not to be disgruntled\confused at what is happening with Fuelly - - and know that the root cause is Google gouging.

Happened at the pure-gas.org website too. To help wean from Google, someone posted this website:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/about
Would it be of use to the developers here at fuelly?

We have looked at many options. We have taken several short term steps and will take more in the future.

We are a very small team with many sites and apps that we work on. Time is our biggest challenge.
