1985 Nissan 200sx

Hey guys. My name's Dave and this is my car.

It's a 1985 Nissan 200sx, with only 36000 original mileage. They car is an automatic with the 2.0l non-turbo engine.

The car's new epa rating is 19/24 21 combined and it's old one is 21/26 23 combined. I myself have been averaging 26mpg of mixed driving.

I think that these numbers are terrible for a car with only 102hp and that's why I'm here; to look for ways to improve this. So far I've done one aero mod, I put clear boxing tape over the upper grill. I haven't had a chance to test this yet because the car isn't running. I just finished replacing the timing belt and water pump and am working on replacing all of my leaky vacuum lines.

The car also has a custom intake(not quite a hai or cai, sorta in between) it managed to give me a little more power without affecting mileage. It also has a glasspack muffler. This replaced the strange corroded factory muffler, that had about 4-5ft of unnecesary narrower tubing. It got me +1 mpg and a little more power, it's loud but it sounds pretty good. I've also added electric fans on switch. They got me an additional +1 mpg and a little more power too. I did have to replace my alternator shortly after, most likely from the extra load, but it was the factory original and would have died shortly anyways.

Well, that's about it and I look forward to talking to everyone on the forums.

Welcome! Years ago, I owned a 1984 200sx non turbo with a 5 speed trans. I would get 30 mpg on the highway without any mods.

Mine had the motor with 8 spark plugs- is yours the same way?

Does your auto trans have overdrive (4 speeds instead of 3) or a locking torque converter?

Thought about swapping your auto tranny for a 5 speed?

Mine has the 8 spark plugs. All US s12's do. If anyones interested in this kind of car they can check out club-s12.org.

I plan on swapping to a manual as soon as I have the extra cash. The auto's 4th gear is actually taller than the manuals 5th gear. The same trans(with a different bellhousing) was used in the non-turbo 280zx and some pickups so I'm going to look into what there gearings are.

great car! I'd garage keep that thing and keep it as a classic! A couple of years ago I passed up on an immaculate 84 pulsar with about 38K on it.

I see you are from Nevada I guess it is easier to pick up low mileage older cars out there. Here in the Northeast they all rust out from the moisture and road salt during the winters.
