Hello, Got a diesel engine into a gas Mercedes.

Hello, I am new in the Forum.

My car is a 1989 300E gas Mercedes, to which I installed a Nissan RD28 naturally aspirated diesel. It is a 6 in line, 18 valves, 98.6 hp at 4800 rpm.

It is a very nice engine, soft, quiet, and is yielding about 32 MPG in mean.
Record is over 40 mpg and maximum speed attained is 170km/h at 3500 rpm.

I live in Chile, South America.

My dream is to install a Mercedes OM 651 or OM 612 Common Rail Turbo diesel intercooler in my car.

I am trying to develop a system for real time aspirated mechanic diesel fuel yield monitoring. Will share results with the Forum.

Best,

OldBeaver

Welcome!

Presumably your emissions regulations are a little less strict than they are here in California. Lucky you!

Good luck to you.

Hi Oldbeaver,
You seem to be a very practical guy.
Don't you expect problems with a very strong common rail turbo diesel in an old chassis? Thinking about propshaft, driveshafts, engine mounting...
Not even mentioning brakes, suspension,...
Or are you planning to adapt all this too?

Welcome!

I would love to get one of these 4 cylinder Diesel Dakota's you have down there.
