This site really helped me refine that practice. And I learned some really cool things.

Yep I've been getting above EPA ratings since the 80's and only read the term a week ago. I've always thought of it as a sport.

I've tried all sorts of things over the years but having the instant feed back of the Scangauge is going to help. Don't know how much more I can get out the 4 Runner though, its EPA combined is 18mpg and I had been averaging 23 something before installing the scangauge.

Ya know talking about keeping records like this reminds me of of my old 1982 S10 v6 std truck. That thing would get 28mpg and you could see the MPG drop off about 4 tenths at about 2500 miles into an oil run on Castrol dyno oil. Gas mileage would spring back every oil change.. Yea I've kept records!

It took a few days watching the scangauge to begin to relearn how to drive where the best fuel economy performance of my 4 Runner is but its starting to look up!
The scangauge has really blown away some of my past assumptions of what speeds I should be driving... The first couple of days I was getting about 24mpg on the daily round trip to work. The last three days have been averaging 26.3 and I think there is a bit more to be gained yet.

You're really making me want a scangauge, 26 is awesome mileage for a 4runner. 23 is the best I've ever done, but i have the 4cyl and a 5spd.

The scangauge is an awesome tool, l only wish I had know about them sooner.

Your 4cyl and 5sp manual seems like it should get better mpg than the 3.4L v6 I'm running. Mines just rear wheel drive so it don't have the extra few hundred pounds and parasitic drag of the front wheel drive stuff though.
