Ok I am new to the site I have a 2005 chev pick up 5.3 eng what ideas work to get more bang for the buck at the pumps I know should have got the s-10 with that 5 cly but do some hauling and need the power but hate to feed it whats a guy to do so you guys been doing this and know what works and what a waste of time By the way Hey how you doing
I've been using a 2000 with a 5.3 lately. They are thirsty in town. The best thing you can do is try to cruise above 40mph. This allows the the torque convertor to lock into overdrive. The 5.3 is makes nice power, even past 5k rpms, has a nice growl too. It doesn't seem to have quite the low end grunt of the old 350s. I'm averaging about 14mpg all city, but I haven't been driving easy.
You can do aero mods, a properly shaped bed cover, front dam, and lowering seem to work the best on pickups. Don't expect miracles but you can improve.

Thanks guys and I live in Huntington going to amsoil 5w 30 that may help kw air filter duel exh the last time I check was around 15.3 city have any of you tried the air swirler in the intake or water injection or water and bakeing soda trick do any of them work?
The air swirlers (Tornado, Vortex, etc) are junk and a waste of money. They have been disproved time and again.
Someone else will have to weigh in on water injection and the water/baking soda devices. But the impression I've gotten is that they either don't work or are very difficult to get setup/adjusted so they do work.
